Christ Church School in deliberation with the Western Naval Command Chief to explore possibilities of students joining the armed forces.

Deliberation with naval officer

After almost a decade spent in getting Mumbai Schools to appreciate our Military with various activities, a special BIRD event was organized on 27th July, Saturday evening braving inclement weather.  25 plus School Principals (from across Mumbai) got to meet Vice Admiral RB Pandit, (Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command) and his team to jointly work on a platform that will motivate students and parents to look at a career in our Armed Forces.

It was decided to create an ongoing process for students of standards 7th, 8th and 9th which would involve motivated and dynamic officers of the Services as its facilitators. Principals were initially briefed about the Navy and its role, they were further enlightened after hearing the Chief of  Staff and a Female Law Officer  present different facets of the Navy as a way of life.

For a Navy Career, quality and commitment to select the right candidates for the job was also highlighted. The Admiral’s assured support has prompted the educationists to now roll out immediate school projects that should see results in a few years. An idea mooted was that mandatory school science exhibitions should have Navy themes. The Navy would be on hand to advise and take this many notches higher.

Of special mention was the commitment given by quite a few principals about admissions to their schools if transferred officers requested for it. The Command Education Officer present stated that this unique meeting, the first of its kind should be the first of many more fruitful ones yet to come.
